English songstress Anna Calvi has just released a dream-like music video to accompany “Strange Weather,” the lead single from her upcoming covers EP (set for a July 15 release) of the same name. On “Strange Weather,” Calvi is joined by David Byrne of the Talking Heads to cover the Keren Ann track.
Just last week, Calvi released another track from “Strange Weather” — a cover of FKA Twigs’s Papi Pacify. The entire EP finds Calvi covering a diverse array of songs, and this week’s music video release features David Byrne of the Talking Heads.
On his collaboration with Calvi, David Byrne said the following:
I’m a big fan of Anna’s two records… and I caught her tour after her first record at Bowery Ballroom here in NY. ‘Epic’ I think is the word that is often used. So when Thomas Bartlett said he was going to be in the studio producing an EP of Anna doing covers I immediately agreed to join in. I was invited to suggest songs and I loved the last Keren Ann record and I thought Strange Weather had a haunting quality that might suit Anna…. so we did that, and Anna then suggested I join in on the Connan Mockasin track she’d done too.
Calvi has already released two other music videos this year: “Suzanne and I,” a track from her 2011 self-titled album, and “Piece by Piece,” from her 2013 sophomore album “One Breath.”
