UK four-piece OK Go have announced their summer 2014 dates!
The indie group have exciting news for us- Upside Out, their first EP in four years, is set for release on June 17th by Paracadute. The disc will feature four new songs pulled from the band’s session for its forthcoming studio album, Hungry Ghosts. Fans may have already heard the track “The Writing’s On the Wall” in the number 1 box office opening of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this weekend. Of the remaining three tracks, two were recorded with Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips) in New York while “I Won’t Let You Down” was produced by Tony Hoffer of Beck and Depeche Mode in Los Angeles. Indeed, singer Damian Kulash says we can expect a nice mix and match of styles in both Upside Out and Hungry Ghosts.
“We don’t have a regular writing routine. It’s more of a whatever-it-takes hunt for those songs that are just beyond our conscious grasp – the ones with all the feeling in them. It’s like trying to scratch an itch in your brain, trying to reach those songs – like trying to grab something in your peripheral vision. So we go at them from a million angles and we wind up with a lot of disparate influences colliding. This album has moments of Aphex Twin bumping into INXS, and New Order piled on the Jackson 5. And as unlikely as those combinations are, it’s the closest thing we’ve made, so far, to the music playing in our own minds.”
Furthermore, in an effort to interact in an exciting way with their fans for the release, OK Go has partnered with Pledge Music to create an elaborate pre-order campaign for Hungry Ghosts that launches today. To promote all this new activity, the band will be setting off a summer North American headline tour, starting July 15th in Sacramento CA. Don’t miss them!
