Kings of Leon is an American rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. The band formed in 1999 and consists of brothers Anthony Caleb Followill (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Ivan Nathan Followill (drums, percussion) and Michael Jared Followill (bass), and their cousin Cameron Matthew Followill (lead guitar).
When Kings of Leon started making music, their sound was a blend of upbeat southern rock and blues. Throughout their career, they have gradually expanded into other genres including alternative and arena rock. In the United Kingdom, they have had nine Top 40 singles, two BRIT Awards, and all three of their studio albums peaked top five on the UK Albums chart. Their third album, Because of the Time, reached spot number one. Their 2008 release, Only by the Night, achieved great success in the states. Kings of Leon’s singles “Sex on Fire,” “Use Somebody,” and “Notion” all peaked at number one on the Hot Modern Tracks chart.
Because of the Time was Kings of Leon’s first platinum selling album in the United States. The album also received the title of best selling album of 2008 in Australia, making the album certified platinum nine times. Their two latest albums are Come Around Sundown (2010) and Mechanical Bull (2013). Their current tour is titled from their 2013 album; supporting acts include Young the Giant and Kongos.
