Miley Cyrus took the stage for the first time in 4 years yesterday at her October 16th Hollywood Bowl Comeback Concert. The Los Angeles show marked many momentous events for the singer and her audience alike, with return to the stage featuring an 18-song set loaded with live debuts, guest performances and a touching tribute to Dolly Parton. As Consequence reports, the Friday show featured live debuts of tracks from Cyrus’ latest album Bass Persuades and brought out rock band Model/Actriz and Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.

Cyrus’ tribute to Parton – iconic singer-songwriter and actress as well as Cyrus’ own godmother – included a speech and a performance of “Jolene.” During the speech, Cyrus shared a story of the only time she saw Parton as a fan and not as a fellow performer, which also happened to take place at the Hollywood Bowl . Cyrus wished to sit back and “watch the show like everybody else,” to which Parton agreed; but in Cyrus’ own words, “she said, ‘Okay, Miley.’ That never means okay.” Parton opened the show with “The Best of Both Worlds,” a song by the fictional artist Hannah Montana played by Cyrus, and called attention to her attendance. This memory is gold to me,” Cyrus said. “Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could ever tear us apart, and I’m gonna see her again. And I can’t fucking wait, because I miss her.”
The cover came early in the set as the sixth total song. Later, Cyrus welcomed Wayne Coyne on stage to help debut the tracks “Do You Realize??” and “Karen Don’t Be Sad” for the first time live. Cyrus will be playing again at the Hollywood Bowl tomorrow, Saturday, October 18th.
