One night only! Mannequin Pussy announces a special headlining show at Music Hall of Williamsburg (per the venue’s request ahead of its closing at the end of the year) on September 27th with support from Evil Adeline.
Formed in Philly in 2010, Mannequin Pussy now consists of guitarist and lead vocalist Missy, bassist and vocalist Bear, drummer Kaleen Reading, and guitarist Maxine Steen, as well as live multi-instrumentalist Caroline Haynes. Signing with Tiny Engines, the band released their self-titled debut in 2014 which showcased their emotionally and sonically raw brand of punk and noise rock with 10 songs totaling only 18 minutes. They followed up in 2016 with Romantic, which burned with much of the same chaotic intensity filled out by screeching guitars, throbbing bass, powerhouse drums, and Missy’s signature distorted shriek, while also demonstrating their more delicate side with songs like the tender-versed title track, which landed at No. 14 on Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Songs of 2016 list.
Mannequin Pussy kept the energy alive on their first album with Epitaph Records, 2019’s Patience, which had an immense sonic range from the tense slow-burn of “High Horse” to the raucous attack of “Clams” and “F.U.C.A.W.” to the vulnerable indie rock of “Drunk II” and “Fear / Desire.” After releasing an EP in 2021 and reissuing Romantic through their own label imprint in 2023, they released their latest album, I Got Heaven in 2024. The album saw the band continuing to pull from different parts of their expansive sound and featured the standout tracks “I Got Heaven” and “Loud Bark,” which had mirrored song structures with the former including a punchy, screamed verse and angelic chorus and the latter containing a gentle verse and defiantly declarative chorus refrain.
In 2026, Mannequin Pussy continues dominate, serving as the opening band for the Foo Fighters, releasing a song with Militaire Gun (who they will also share the stage with at the highly anticipated CBGB Fest), and bringing their inspiringly powerful live show to NPR’s Tiny Desk. The band’s concerts, led by Missy’s incredibly commanding stage presence, are highly cathartic, communal experiences that feature the softer sides of their music as well as the wild, mosh-inducing ones. For all the strength of the band’s music live, the most powerful moment of their shows come when Missy addresses the crowd directly about the social justice issues oppressing them and forges bonds that might last beyond the end of their set, encouraging audience members of all genders to shout “pussy” and teaching them to embrace their rage by leading them in a primal scream. Towing the line between quiet vulnerability and ferocious feminine rage, Mannequin Pussy’s music aims to empower the individual and to unite everyone in the name of tearing down the systems of power that control us.
