Julia Jacklin on tour in North America! The Australian singer-songwriter journeys stateside this fall to celebrate the release of her upcoming album, The Gem, and will be playing a show at Brooklyn Paramount on November 19th with Jordan Patterson opening.
Born in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Jacklin began taking classical singing lessons at age ten and went on to play in various bands throughout her youth. In 2016, she signed with Transgressive, Polyvinyl, and Liberation Records to release her Australia Top 40 debut album, Don’t Let the Kids Win, which introduced the world to her incredibly direct and intimate songwriting and launched her to widespread recognition, performing at major festivals, being included in Rolling Stone Australia’s “Future Is Now” spotlight series, and getting named “Next Big Thing” at the SMAC Awards. In 2019, she released her No. 8 sophomore album, Crushing, which lives up to its name with Jacklin further breaking down the barrier between her and the listener as she chronicles the end of a relationship and what comes after in strikingly candid detail amidst a backdrop of hauntingly beautiful, mesmerizingly sparse instrumentals. She followed up in 2022 with Pre Pleasure on which she continues her mix of driving rock and dreamy indie pop, this time with a more piano-driven sound accentuated by electronic textures and an expanded instrumental palette including organ, chimes, and an appearance from the Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra.
Julia Jacklin’s upcoming album, The Gem, is scheduled for release on September 25th through 4AD, which has described the album as “a soaring document of the songwriter’s journey back to herself.” So far, Jacklin has released the spirited “Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon),” on which she explores conflicting feelings towards potentially problematic partners, and the wistful “I Wish” (feat. The Maes), on which she reflects on a lack of support in difficult times gone by. For her upcoming tour run in support of the album, Jacklin will be joined by bassist Jennifer Aslet, guitarist Jacob Diamond, and drummer Jess Elwood for a live show that promises to be nothing short of ethereal with its soaring textures, expertly tasteful playing, and a stunningly powerful, passionately sincere vocal performance guaranteed to induce transformative chills. Beloved for her tender, dynamically-ranged voice, deeply personal and honest lyrics, and the unique ability to make even the most specific experiences feel universal, Julia Jacklin consistently operates at the highest level as one of the most captivating songwriters out there right now.
