Welcome to your first taste of Agalloch’s upcoming LP. We haven’t heard a full-length album from the Portland metal outfit since Marrow of the Spirit in 2010. “Celestial Effigy” is a promising piece of work, check below, and join us in looking forward to more.
Let’s compare Agalloch to a volcano. Both spend most of their time largely dormant, only occasionally producing minor temblors (or 21-minute EPs). But both eventually erupt, and when they do…you get the idea. Agalloch is getting close to another eruption.
How can you not get amped for an Agalloch release. They’re few and far between, but my lord do they kick ass. Marrow of the Spirit found itself on a whole load of “best of 2010” lists – and it topped a few of them too. And it’s hardly an outlier; Agalloch simply doesn’t release bad albums. So you’ll pardon us for getting a little excited for The Serpent & the Sphere, which we’ll be seeing in May. For now, we’ll be content with “Celestial Effigy”, a winding 3/4 time monster of a song, and a perfect first foot forward for the album.
