According to KVUE.com, a fourth person has died from injuries sustained in the car accident that occurred earlier this month at outside a SXSW event taking place at The Mohawk. After being placed into a medically induced coma on March 13th, De’Andre Tatum, of Fort Worth, TX finally succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead on Thursday.
Steven Craenmehr, 35, of the Netherlands and Jamie Ranae West, 27, of Austin were the first two fatal victims of the accident. As originally reported by mxdwn, both were pronounced dead at the scene, while 23 were reported injured. Several days later, Sandy Le, of Pass Christian, Mississippi, died in the hospital.
Currently in jail with a bail set at $3 million dollars, Rashad Owens, identified as the driver, has already been charged with one count of capital murder. Set to perform that night, police attempted to pull Owens over at a DUI checkpoint on his way to the venue. Police allege that after evading the checkpoint and turning onto Red Rever, he struck more than 20 pedestrians before turning onto East 11th and crashing into a moped and van. Owens then attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended after being tased.
According to the Statesman, Owens’ brother, Lamar Wilson said he had been drinking and was unfamiliar with the streets of Austin, TX.
Following the accident The Mohawk tweeted “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims from tonight’s tragedy. Make sure everyone you know is home safe tonight.”
