With the release of their 3rd studio album, Cartoon Darkness coming out just five days ago on Oct. 25, Amyl and the Sniffers begin their tour next month. They will make their way to Chicago for a performance on May 8, 2025, at The Salt Shed with opener Sheer Mag.
Amyl and the Sniffers is an Australian punk rock band consisting of lead vocalist Amy Taylor, guitarist Declan Mehrtens, bassist Gus Romer, and drummer Bryce Wilson. The band was formed in 2016 when Taylor, Mehrtens, and Wilson lived together. Their previous bassist, Calum Newton started with the band but left to pursue a solo career. He was then replaced by Romer in 2017.
Their first piece of music was an EP titled “Giddy Up” released in 2016. Their second big project was an EP that was released a year later in 2017. The band traveled from pub to pub performing their music until the release of their first studio album, self-titled, Amyl and the Sniffers, in 2019. Their follow-up album, Comfort To Me, was released two years later in 2021.
The band was immediately recognized for their chaotic and effervescent presence in the music world. They toured with Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day in 2022 and the following year toured with The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction. This gained them major attention as well as listeners.
They have released three studio albums, three EPs, and six singles. Their newest project, Cartoon Darkness (2024), explores themes of childlike wonder, as well as darker themes like the unknown and the hardships of growing up. This album is full of surprises and the band dives deeper than they previously had.
Amyl and the Sniffers are set to perform in Chicago at The Salt Shed on May 8, 2025, with opener Sheer Mag. Tickets are available for pre-sale starting on Nov. 1, 2024.
