Lake Street Dive returns to Chicago on Sept. 26 with a performance at The Salt Shed with Katie Pruitt, featuring Huntertones Horns. This tour is in celebration of their newly released album, Good Together (2024).
In 2004, at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, four skilled musicians got together to form Lake Street Dive. The members included lead vocalist Rachael Price, Bridget Kearney on bass, Mike Olson on trumpet and guitar, and Mike Calabrese on drums. In 2017, Akie Bermiss joined as a keyboardist and in 2021, Olson left the band and was replaced by guitarist James Cornelison.
Together, they have created a sound so unique to them. It combines jazz with folk and soul with pop. Consolidating with Price’s soulful vocals, they have made a rich and immersive listening experience. They have incorporated all different kinds of horned instruments giving each song a particular intensity.
Although they formed in 2004, they did not begin to release music until 2010. They started wanting to be a “free country band” until they decided to try their luck in other genres. And luck they found. They have released seven albums, 12 singles, and three EPs.
Their performances are full of life accompanied on stage by trumpets, cellos, pianos and so many other unlikely instruments.
