Another day, another downer. Deer Tick has released yet another soul-crushing stream, this time of new song “Thyme”. Their upcoming album Negativity continues to fill out, and continues to live up to its title.
“Thyme” is the seventh song that Deer Tick have teased from Negativity. Previous offerings include “Just Friends”, “The Dream’s in the Ditch”, and “The Rock”. The Rhode-Island band also recently performed a full cover of Nirvana’s grunge masterpiece In Utero at the Brooklyn Bowl (there was also a pillow fight). The album’s due out on September 24th, but listeners have already gotten a good long look at it, and boy, is it depressing.
It’s also gorgeous. “Thyme”, with it’s innocent title, gentle, sweeping guitars and haunting vocals, brings a layer of jaded sleaze that’s filthier than any gangsta ode to casual sex we’ve ever heard. Negativity may be the emotional equivalent of getting stabbed with a rusty screwdriver, but that’s somehow not such a bad thing. Check the song out below.
