Cincinnati alternative rock five piece, The Afghan Whigs, have announced a double headlining tour with Sydney’s The Church! The bands will be making a stop at The Fillmore on July 9.
Originally forming in 1986, The Afghan Whigs are currently on their second run as a band, having broken up in 2001 and reformed in 2012. Consisting of lead vocalist Greg Dulli, bass guitarist John Curley, keyboardist Rick G. Nelson, drummer Patrick Keeler, and guitarist Christopher Thorn, The Afghan Whigs were born out of Dulli’s previous band, The Black Republicans. The band in their original run released six studio albums, including their 1993 classic, Gentlemen. Since reforming over a decade ago, they’ve produced three albums, the most recent of which, How Do You Burn?, dropped in 2022.
The Church are best known for their new wave and neo-psychedelia work dating back to their formation in 1980. They are lead vocalist and bassist Steve Kilbey, drummer Tim Powles, guitarist Ian Haug, multi-instumentalist Jeffery Cain, and guitarist Ashley Naylor. A prolific group, with a massive discography, The Church have released 25 studio album, adopting a sound more akin to post-rock and dream pop.
