The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr. has set a release date for AHJ, his newest solo effort under Julian Casablancas-helmed Cult Records. Hopes are high for his third solo album after previous strong releases in 2006 and 2008.
Well-known as he is for providing the sunny, frenetic guitar lines for The Strokes, there’s more to AHJ than that. His upcoming album is almost entirely a one-man project, as Hammond, Jr. provides both instrumentals and vocals, receiving only some drumming assistance from collaborator Matthew Frank Romano. AHJ comes after the well-received 2008 album ¿Cómo Te Llama?. Listeners might detect some similarities to The Strokes in this jangly, hypnotic offering, but most similarities end after the vocals kick in.
Since his last solo release, Hammond, Jr. has worked on two major albums for The Strokes, Angles and, more recently, Comedown Machine. Check out the track listing for AHJ here.
