Virgin Mobile’s FreeFest, has revealed its 2013 lineup, which will include such big names as Vampire Weekend, Pretty Lights, and The Avett Brothers – and as the name suggests, yes, it is completely free.
FreeFest is held at the Merriweather Post Pavillion, which has housed the likes of The Who, Led Zeppelin, and Green Day. In its fourth year running, the festival is completely free, with the help of donations and volunteers. The only thing the festival asks is for a $10 donation to help their charity of choice, the RE*Generation House in Washington D.C. The website drives their mission home:
Virgin Mobile FreeFest has always been about giving back. For the past four years, we’ve wanted to lighten things up in the face of a rough economy while drawing more attention to youth homelessness. And thanks to you, we’ve raised nearly $800,000, generated more than 75,000 hours of volunteer time and created over 25,000 outreach kits.
Your support over the last two Festival years has been outstanding! 2011 & 2012 donations helped build the Virgin Mobile RE*Generation House, a transitional living facility for homeless youth in Washington, D.C.
The festival lineup draws well-known acts, and this year is no different. The heart-stopping lineup includes MGMT, Pretty Lights, City and Colour, Vampire Weekend, and more. See the full lineup below.
