Former Le Tigre fronter and Riot Grrrl pioneer Kathleen Hanna’s solo project The Julie Ruin have announced their first ever tour, embarking on the heels of their debut album Run Fast—set for release via the band’s own TJR Records on September 3rd—before a culminating performance at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.
Earlier this month, The Julie Ruin released their first single, the raucously lo-fi “Oh Come On,” eliciting from Rolling Stone a “Ms. Hanna, you have no idea how good it is to have you back,” and lighting the wick on a new brand of Bikini Kill fire. With the combined forces of bassist Kathi Wilcox (a Bikini Kill bandmate), keyboardist Kenny Mellman (of cabaret duo “Kiki and Herb”), drummer Carmine Covelli, and guitarist Sara Landeau, Hanna has assembled a pristine punk-rock vessel for her iconoclastic vocals.
The tour, which kicks off at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on September 3rd, features opener La Sera, whose peppy act will also accompany Kate Nash’s upcoming tour.
