You can now stream the cover of Lee Hazlewood’s “Son of a Gun” by Thriftstore Masterpiece, featuring Frank Black of The Pixies.
Thriftstore Masterpiece, led by producer Charles Normal, specializes in paying homage to older records. Trouble Is A Lonesome Town is a revival of Lee Hazlewood’s 1963 debut and features Pete Yorn, Frank Black, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse and Courtney Taylor-Taylor of the Dandy Warhols, among others.
Normal discovered Trouble Is A Lonesome Town at a thrift store in Norway in the early 2000s, then fell in love with it and decided to record it with his own sound. He recruited his brother, singer Larry Norman, as well as Frank Black, to help him with the project. Norman passed away in 2008, but Isaac Brock persuaded Normal to finish the album, which is set to be released on July 9, 2013.
