Four years after their hit album My Maudlin Career was unleashed, Camera Obscura have announced their newest will be out in June, with tour stops in the U.S. to follow.
To record the new album, Desire Lines, the Glasgow-based group recently spent time in Portland, Ore., working with producer Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Spoon, My Morning Jacket). Guitarist and vocalist Tracyanne Campbell had this to say about the album’s creation:
Of all our records this was pretty much the most challenging to write, partly because of the situation we found ourselves in with having to take such a long and uncertain amount of time out, but also because it would be record number five and we were getting harder and harder to please. Working in the US with southern gentleman Tucker Martine was a positive experience. He brought a certain calmness to recording that wasn’t there before. We were also delighted to have Neko Case and Jim James sing on the record too. What a treat.
Prior to the album release, Camera Obscura will be making appearances at SXSW, as well as a special show in NYC. Their return to the States in June will feature them occasionally touring with She & Him, and Marissa Nadler.
