Indie pop band, The Magnetic Fields, have announced a set of shows in celebration of the 25 Year Anniversary of their classic 1999 album, 69 Love Songs. They will be playing four shows in San Francisco at the Curran Theater from April 26-29.
The Magnetic Fields is led by singer-songwriter, Stephin Merritt who serves as lead writer, producer, and vocalist. The group also has members Claudia Gonson, Sam Davol, John Woo, and Shirley Sims, all of whom play a plethora of instruments. They have released a total of 12 studio albums since forming in 1989.
69 Love Songs is, as the name implies, a triple album of love songs that runs for 2 hours and 52 minutes. The album features multiple vocalists and varied instrumentation comprised of ukulele, accordion, cello, mandolin, flute, and xylophone. The lyrics cover not only love, but heartbreak and anger within relationships. The stories in the songs are told from heterosexual, homosexual, and bisexual perspectives. 69 Love Songs received widespread critical acclaim upon its release for its ambitious and consistent track run, varied production and instrumentation, and showcasing of musical talent.
Witness The Magnetic Fields in a rare performance of their lengthy classic, 69 Love Songs, in full across two nights. The first half of the album will be played on April 26 and 28, while the second half will be played on April 27 and 29. Tickets are available here
