Caroline Polachek is still on tour in support of her recent album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You. She has been on the Australian leg of her tour this past week, and she recently had a show in Melbourne at the Forum Theater. Instead of performing the album’s Grimes and Dido collaboration “Fly To You” as per usual, she paid tribute to the track’s featured artists by singing two of their songs including Grimes’ “Delete Forever” and Dido’s “Thank You,” done over the “Fly To You” instrumental.
Recently, Polachek has confessed that she wants to take a break from the music scene. She stated that: “My whole touring crew are all so close, and we really take great care of each other. “So you know the morale is always very high, even if the day’s a drag.” She explains how she likes to make the most of her time alone, visiting museums and parks between shows.
Polacheck admitted that “lack of inspiration has never really been a problem for her”. Rather, the solution to her music is time. “I really like to let ideas incubate for a long time until I really feel like I can see something from both sides and know how to execute something.”
In addition, Polachek said that making Desire, I Want To Turn Into You was challenging while touring her former album, Pang, was delayed due to the pandemic. She states: “It created this sort of domino effect. Each thing had to be released while the next thing was being made, even down to the singles and music videos. So, it was very rushed and, in a way, I decided to lean into the messiness. It’s part of the aesthetic of the whole album.”
