Former Pantera and DOWN lead Phillip Anselmo is hooking up with Warbeast to release a split album titled War of the Gargantuas to be released on January 8, 2013. This will be Anselmo’s first solo release of any kind in a career that has spanned nearly 3 decades.
War of the Gargantuas, which coincidentally bears the same name as the 1996 tour headlined by Pantera, White Zombie, and Deftones, will feature two songs from Warbeast (which consists of Bruce Corbitt, Scott Shelby, Joe González, Bobby Tillotson Jr, and Alan Bovee) and two songs from Anselmo and his group, The Illegals (Marzi Montazeri, Bennett Bartley, and José Manuel Gonzáles).
The album, which will be released by Anselmo’s Housecore Records, is a glimpse of what fans should expect from both Anselmo and Warbeast in the future. Warbeast guitarist Scott Shelby describes the two songs featured on the album as “a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash metal style.” They recently announced the release of their second studio album “Destroy,” set to come out some time in early 2013. Anselmo added that War of the Gargantuas is “a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”
