English alt-indie 3 piece Band of Skulls makes pretty straightforward music. It’s bluesy rock, simply. Upon hearing their music for the first time, it was hard to understand the hype around this band, but that changed upon seeing them live opening for BRMC. That is because they make music that is truly meant to be heard live. With a little improve thrown in for good measure, the sound can really go anywhere, and feeds off the energy of the crowd, intensifying as they do. It’s a fair bet that upon walking out of the venue, you’ll find at least one of their catchy, guitar power driven riffs stuck in your head for days. Band of Skulls is a great choice for an ACL aftershow.
Austin band Black Pistol Fire is perfectly matched with Band of Skulls in regards to sound. Also doing the blues rock thing, the two piece makes a lot of killer noise given that there’s just a couple guys up there. If the Black Keys & the White Stripes have taught us anything, it’s that sometimes a guitar, and booming drums is all it takes. Make sure to make it out a bit early to catch these guys so that they can become your new local favorites.
