The satirical, heavy metal band, GWAR is coming back with a bang and announcing a slew of new tour dates. The Richmond, Virginia-based band was taking an extended break but will now embark on their fall North America tour with supporting acts DevilDriver, Cancer Bats and Legacy of Disorder. The “Fate or Chaos” shows is due to start in Philadephia, Pennsylvania on October 12th and continue onto Millvale, Pennsylvania on November 26th with a whole cluster of new dates and cities being added with the forthcoming weeks.
Lord Oderus talked about the catalyst of the new tour, the eave of former band member Flattus Maximus, and addressed the band’s lack of a new album by saying, “…this time GWAR, fresh from our battle with Death, takes on another of history’s biggest assholes… God himself! Seeing as we don’t have the new album done yet, we really had to do something spectacular…. This tour will see the arrival of a new Scumdog brother to aid GWAR in our quest to destroy everything that sucks. That’s right, I can finally reveal certain details regarding our new album… ever since our missing band mate Flattus Maximus took his leave of Earth, members of the Maximus tribe have been showing up at our Antarctic fortress… [to] lay tracks on the album! …every member of the Maximus family rips on the guitar… and they were anxious to help us fill the void left by Flattus.”
Prior to traveling on the “Fate or Chaos” fall tour, the colorful gang will be hosts of the summer 2012 GWAR-B-Q event. Ring Dog Rescue and Slave Pit Inc. will be presenting the 3rd annual GWAR-B-Q, which will take place on August 18th in the Hadad’s Water Park of the band’s hometown, Richmond, Virginia. Tickets can be purchased online HERE and physical tickets will be sold at the Plan 9 Records in Carytown or Vinyl Conflict Records in Oregon Hill. Audiences can expect performances by headliners, GWAR, The Casualties, Strike Anywhere, Valient Thor, Ghoul and many more!
GWAR is also expected to perform at the 2012 RiotFest in Chicago,. Illionois on September 15th.
GWAR’s performances and personas are known for its ornate revisioning of the sci-fi/horror film genre. The band wears elaborate costumes that underscore the band’s notoriously obscene lyrics that play on socially conscious themes like politics and other taboo issues. The band has been going strong since forming in 1984, and have even been nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance and Best Long Form Music Video. The heavy metal performers have released ten albums and their last LP was 2010’s Bloody Pit of Horror.
