According to Pitchfork, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are trying to plan a tour that would involve the 2Pac hologram that “performed” at Coachella. The technology used for the intricate hologram was developed by Digital Domain Media Group Inc. Check out a video of the hologram’s Coachella performance after the jump.
The 2Pac hologram is actually a 2-D image, so it is not truly a hologram, which are meant to be 3-D, but the technology is still able to create a lifelike illusion of 2Pac. The way it works is that a digital image of 2Pac is projected onto reflective Mylar plastic. This same technique was used in the Gorillaz’s 2006 Grammys performance with Madonna.
For now, the tour is not yet definite, but according to , Ed Ulbrich, the tech company’s chief creative officer, “Dre has a massive vision for this.”
