Though she did make a notable appearance on Tove Lo’s 2018 hit “Bitches” and a few other tracks, it’s been four years since Swedish dancehall/electro-pop artist Elliphant has released solo material. Today, she shares a new song for “Uturus.”
The song begins with the singer detailing the precarious situation surrounding her own birth – the umbilical cord wrapping around her neck – over slow and melodic instrumentation. The chorus takes on a bit of a gospel-influenced tone, with Elliphant singing “Those were the days / In that good old uterus / What a beautiful place / That good old uterus.”
In addition to the song, there’s a video for “Uterus” that will come out tomorrow morning. It features the very visibly pregnant singer in scenes shot at Tullgarn Palace in Sweden. She’s due to give birth this weekend, casting the subject matter of the song in a new light.
In 2016 Elliphant released her most recent album, Living Life Golden, which includes singles like “Where Is Home” and “Everybody” with Azealia Banks. She’s a prolific featured artist, appearing on tracks by Major Lazer, Zeds Dead and more.
