South African rap collective Die Antwoord has announced official dates for a tour that will cover stops in Philadelphia, Canada, Australia, and a trio of recently-added stop in California and Nevada.
The aggressively offbeat group’s newest LP, Ten$ion, is due out in early 2012 from the group’s own label, Zef Records. As previously reported, the group broke with Interscope records after the label suggested that the group rework their upcoming release.
Frontman Watkin Tudor Jones (better known by his Die Antwoord alias, “Ninja”) is known for his aggressive and vulgar stage persona. The incorporation of this unique dramatic element has become a large part of Die Antwoord’s musical presence.
Stylistically, the group emulates their label’s namesake—they are known for incorporating the distinctly South African Zef elements into their music and stage performances.
The group is also known for forcefully addressing elements that are taboo or distasteful, especially for American audiences. Their most recent release “Fok Julle Naaiers” literally translation to “Fuck You All,” offers a sampling of the brazen presentation that Die Antwoord is known for.
