While the 2000s may be over, that doesn’t mean that we have to leave indie rock behind. With the boom of artists like Bon Iver behind us, it would have come as no surprise had indie rock just sort of slunk back into the darkness of tape decks and underground music venues. Somehow, the crowd of folks who loved the style simply loved it to the point that it became a powerhouse unto itself, and now the genre and its performers pack stadiums across the world.
Speaking of packing stadiums, that’s exactly what Local Natives, Foals and Cherry Glazerr have set out to do on their brand new tour. Headed by the Local Natives, the tour promises a stunning mix of throwback jams and excellent newer hits off of their latest record Violet Street. But don’t sleep on the undercard acts. Foals is one of the most impressive indie rock bands still making music, and while they have yet to fully match the emotional intensity of Total Life Forever which contained the excellent “Spanish Sahara,” they’ve never made a misstep on any of their albums.
Concert opener Cherry Glazerr is no slouch either. Since releasing their debut album in 2013, they’ve made quite the name for themselves as a group of must watch rising punk stars. In particular, their 2019 album Stuffed & Ready was their best yet, and only shows them further treading down a boundary pushing punk path.
Catch all three of these magnificent acts at the amazing Greek Theatre on 5/20.
