The American staple of alternative rock, Pearl Jam, has announced their new album Gigaton set to release in March of this year, as well as tour dates for this coming Spring. This will be their first studio album released since Lightning Bolt in 2013, and their eleventh studio album since 1991.
The band teased the release of a new album over the weekend on social media. Just before midnight on Friday, January 10th, the Pearl Jam twitter account posted a caption-less post featuring “Pearl Jam” spelled out in the middle of cardiac rhythm.

Afterward, the band posted a short video of a world map with several flame symbols located in various cities. Sure enough, the cities lit up in the post, which included Seattle, New York City, and Venice, California, all contained billboards promoting the release of Gigaton. The band eventually made a post officially confirming the release of the new album.

“Making this record was a long journey,” Mike McCready, lead guitarist and co-founder of Pearl Jam, explains. “It was emotionally dark and confusing at times, but also an exciting and experimental road map to musical redemption. Collaborating with my bandmates on Gigaton ultimately gave me greater love, awareness and knowledge of the need for human connection in these times.” The band announced that the first single off of the album, “Dance Of The Clairvoyants,” will be released sometime in the next few weeks.
Pearl Jam hasn’t released a studio album since Lightning Bolt in 2013, but through a partnership with Spotify the band released several holiday themed songs in 2019 titled “The 12 Days of Pearl Jam.”
