Wild Nothing, the musical project of Jack Tatum has announced a new EP titled Laughing Gas, which will be released on January 31st via Captured Tracks. This latest project is supported by the new single “Foyer,” which also precedes a planned set of spring 2020 tour dates which will see Tatum celebrate the 10th anniversary of debut album Gemini, with support from Beach Fossils.
“Foyer,” is an upbeat synth pop track, with elements of funk blended in, with vintage synth lines blending in well with a funk-like bassline. Tatum’s vocals add an easy feel to the track, which takes a retro inspired approach to its instrumentals.
“I think of the EP’s title as being representative of a kind of manufactured bliss and loss of control,” says Tatum. “So much of people’s lives are caught up in the quest for wholeness and sometimes it feels so much easier to loosen our grip through these fabricated shortcuts, whether it’s escapism, self-medication, seeking external validation or any number of other things. I often find myself guilty of almost all of these, but ultimately I think this EP finds me in a place of trying to go easier on myself. I’ve been extremely fortunate to continue releasing the music I love after 10 years of Wild Nothing and this release feels no different.”
Tatum released Indigo as part of Wild Nothing back in 2018. This album saw the performer delve into a dream pop inspired sound, while also borrowing from elements of space rock.\
