French artist and producer James BKS has recruited help from: A Tribe Called Quest member Q-Tip, musician and actor Little Simz, and 7Wallace Music owner Idris Elba for an animated new music. This superstar line-up came through with this music video for “New Breed.” The song starts out with Q-Tip delivering another classic sounding hip-hop verse before jumping into the head bobbing chorus. Next up in this jovial sounding song is Suicide Squad actor Idris Elba delivering a verse with syllable articulation that leads one lyric right into the other with ease. Little Simz is last up on this already scalding hot track but somehow finds a way to make it that much hotter. She delivers a verse with lyrical intelligence that could remind one of Nicki Minaj, screaming out the lyric, “My heritage comes from royalty,” which the Queen releasing female rapper can only respect.
The animated video depicts the musicians as cartoons that look like they could’ve have their own TV show on the classic nick-at-night lineup. The video starts out with a spaceship floating in space before dropping down to the cartoon version of Q-Tip who steps out of the animated barber shop and delivers his classic flow. After making his way through the cartoon town he comes to the top of a building and stares out at space, where James BKS was waiting in his spaceship. Next up was Idris Elba whose verse starts in a recording booth before he finds himself flying a helicopter to a mountain where he drops down and turns into a wolf. Similar to Q-Tip, Elba finds himself staring out at space at the end of his verse.
Last but certainly not least is Little Simz, the female rapper’s verse starts out with her meditating before she opens her eyes and finds herself on a crowded subway. As her verse goes on a trippy feel comes over the metro-train and once the subway comes to a stop Simz steps off to find herself in the company of fellow rappers, Q-Tip and Idris Elba. Then the same spaceship James BKS was flying around suddenly abducts the three musicians to join in in space, which is the perfect symbol for where the three musicians are. Ahead of their time.
