We’re only a mere nine days away from the release of Queens of The Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme’s highly anticipated Desert Sessions Volumes 11 & 12, which will be released via Matador Records. In preparation for the release, Homme has debuted a comedic trailer for the upcoming album, starring himself, the video’s director Liam Lynch, and a couple of the project’s collaborators: Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa and Autolux’s Carla Azar.
In the video Homme is shown cutting upen his hand with a knife over a Satanic symbol, with LED lights donned across the room, as Homme and Mozgawa don ritualistic masks. Lynch and Azar turn on the lights in the room where they are performing the ritual, showing that the room is merely a simple office closet. The four then try to have some awkward small talk, with hilarious results.
In addition to Azar and Mozgawa, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Les Claypool of Primus, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, Matt Sweeney, Matt Berry of What We Do in the Shadows, Libby Grace and Töôrnst Hülpft have all been confirmed for the upcoming album. These recent sessions were recorded last year in Joshua Tree, California, in a desert recording studio named Rancho De La Luna. Homme has recorded over 10 Desert Sessions in Joshua Tree over the past two decades, and were initially revealed by the New York Times.
Desert Sessions Volumes 11 & 12 serve as the first Desert Sessions albums since the release of Volumes 9 & 10 over 16 years ago. These sessions included PJ Harvey, Ween’s Dean Ween, former Nine Inch Nails touring member Jeordie White, Eleven’s Alain Johannes, Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen, and former Danzig member Joey Castillo.
