Just in time for Halloween, metalcore Boston, Massachusetts-based band, Ice Nine Kills recently released the music video for their acoustic single “Stabbing in the Dark” Featuring Matt Heafy of Trivium off their forthcoming deluxe edition of horror film inspired album The Silver Scream: Final Cut slated for an October 25th release on Fearless Records. “Stabbing in the Dark” was originally recorded for Ice Nine Kills’ fifth studio album, last year’s The Silver Scream, where each of the album’s 13 tracks were inspired by a classic horror film. In the case of “Stabbing in the Dark” we get the pumpkin carved inspiration from the 1978 iconic classic John Carpenter’s Halloween.
The video opens up on what looks like an average suburban family gathering around the living room to watch Ice Nine Kills’ “Stabbing in the Dark” music video. The lyrics of the song strongly attach references from the subject matter of the film, Halloween. As each member is trading glances from their reaction to the music video, we get shots of the parents and the children quietly reacting to what is shown on the television set. The mother in the music video emotes the best reactions in between drags from her cigarette. The video concludes with the family in unison turning their attention away from the TV to look eerily and directly at the camera staring at the audience.
It is serendipitous fate in how the acoustic version of the track, that is featured in the aforementioned video, came about. According to a press release, where “…’hands of fate’ played their role not only in this song, but also in real life as TRIVIUM’s Matt Heafy had originally covered ICE NINE KILLS “Stabbing in the Dark” on his ‘KiichiChaosKaraoke’ Twitch series, where fans request him to learn and perform a song of their choice in its entirety while live streaming.”
Ice Nine Kills’ current touring roster is as follows: founding member Spencer Charnas (lead vocals/guitarist and keyboards), Ricky Armellino (rhythm guitar/co-lead vocals), Patrick Galante (drums), Dan Sugarman (lead guitar/backing vocals) and Joe Occhiuti (bass/keyboards/backing vocals). As previously stated in the press release, Charnas shared his enthusiasm in the collaboration with Heafy saying:
“We were devilishly delighted to find out that Matt was a fan of INK. When we heard his chill-inducing cover of ‘Stabbing In The Dark,’ we knew right then and there that we had to collaborate with him.”
He continues, “We have enormous respect for Matt’s abilities and are honored to have him be a part of this spooky, almost folk-like rendition of the song. He slaughtered this performance and we can’t wait for people to hear it during our favorite month of the year.”
