Joanna Newsom had to cancel her Los Angeles shows at The Hollywood Legion Theater which were scheduled on December 10-14, 2019. She is currently seeking a new venue for rescheduled L.A. shows and all purchases for the Hollywood Legion Theater concerts will be refunded. Tickets for her shows are available here.
Newsom has released four studio albums, including The Milk-Eyed Mender (2004), Ys (2006), Have One on Me (2010) and Divers (2015). Fans on social media have described seeing her live show as an emotional experience, saying to bring tissues while she sings and plays the harp. Her music has a soft vulnerability as her high-pitched voice runs rhythmically against the harp strings. Her songwriting has been described as having elements of Appalachian and avant-garde modernism. Newsom has a folksy, down-to-earth, heartfelt feeling that exudes when she sings.
Her album Have One on Me was praised by critics, with Ann Powers of the Los Angeles Times stating “Newsom uses the songwriter’s default mode to explore how traditional love, for women, can be both the beginning and the end of possibility: a way to escape home and be exiled from it; to welcome children or be burdened by fertility; to be entrusted with secrets, or betrayed.”
