Ride have released the second song from their upcoming album, a dissonant and grinding track called “Repetition.” Unlike the first single from This Is Not A Safe Place “Future Love,” “Repetition” is focused more on atmospherics and attitude than dreamy melodies. Appropriately, singer Andy Bell repeats himself throughout the track and there’s ample reverb providing an echo-y atmosphere to the distorted guitars and electronica-influenced drum beat.
Bell elaborates in a statement that the song is the centerpiece of This Is Not A Safe Place and in his opinion, one of the best songs he’s written. In many ways, it perfectly combines old and new for Ride, as Bell explains.
“It has a great dual harmony vocal from myself and Mark,” said Bell. “Steve came up with the brilliant Juno 6 bassline that starts the song, which he overdubbed on our last day of recording for the album, Loz puts down a monster of a drum track, it’s both very experimental and very pop in approach and that’s what Ride always tried to do in the early days.”
“Repetition” is from the band’s upcoming new album This Is Not A Safe Place which will be out on August 16 on Wichita Recordings. The record is the band’s second since reuniting in 2014 and is the follow-up to Ride’s first post-reunion album Weather Diaries, which was released in 2017.
Ride has also announced tour dates for the fall of 2019. They’ll be playing in the United States and Canada in September and October before heading back to their homeland for UK dates in November and December.
