The legendary post-hardcore band known as The Jesus Lizard has announced its first few winter 2019 tour dates. Their first 2019 show will be at Marathon Music Works in Nashville, the next will be at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, and the third and final date (as of now) will be a New Year’s Eve show at Brooklyn Steel in New York City. The Jesus Lizard last toured in 2018 to much success, receiving critical praise and the many sold-out shows to match. Stereogum have described the band as “one of the greatest live bands ever” and The New York Times have referred to the live performance of the band’s multitude of legendary albums as “extravagantly good”.
The Jesus Lizard was formed in the late 80s in Austin, Texas. The founding members, David Yow (vocals), David Wm. Sims’ (bass), and Duane Denison (guitar) recorded their first EP with legendary rock producer Steve Albini, then went on to induct Mac McNeilly (drums) into the group before they began their run of six storied studio albums. The Jesus Lizard first reunited in 2008, and began playing live again in 2009. In the decade since, while they have released no new material as a group, they have remained busy with tours and separate projects like frontman David Yow’s debut solo album, Tonight You Look Like A Spider.
