Alt rock band The Lemonheads have announced a new 7” vinyl single cover of The Eagles’ “Take It Easy,” set to be released on June 14th. The Lemonheads are not strangers to covers, as this announcement comes after the release of Varshons 2, a cover album that the band debuted earlier this year, ten years after their cover album Varshons. As for the inspiration for covering “Take It Easy,” frontman Evan Dando says, “‘Take It Easy’ is kinda rough. It was my girlfriend’s idea, but it was my idea to make it sound anaemic and bloodless…enjoy!” The version one track originally featured on Varshons 2, but the popularity of their cover influenced the band to release it as its own single. Version two of the track, on the B side, is, according to The Lemonheads’ press release, “a Matthew Cullen production – a suicide mix, with Schneider and Hutter sharing the wheel, as the road map heads right into the soundtrack of Tron.”
The Lemonheads are currently on a tour of North America, with special guest Tommy Stinson––previous bassist of Guns n’ Roses––who is with them for all of their tour dates. Though Evan Dando is the only remaining member of the original lineup of The Lemonheads, the band has remained true to their sound, and according to The Rolling Stone, Dando is “still enjoying a life of drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, on Martha’s Vineyard of all places.” The Lemonheads’ tour will showcase a rich blend of their old songs and Varshions covers, aided by the talents of Stinson and a loyal fan base.
