Because of last year’s success, Brandi Carlile’s Girls Just Wanna Weekend returns for another music filled concert, January 29th through February 2nd, 2020. The event will take place at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. As before, it will be an exclusively all female lineup, with artists Sheryl Crow, Lake Street Drive, Patty Griffin, Lucius, KT Tunstall, Jade Bird, Amanda Shires, and Yola performing and, a comedy set from Wanda Sykes. Special guests include Ruby Amanfu, Natalie Hemby, and Katie Herzig.
Notable performer Sheryl Crow is currently involved in a duet album, which will have contributions from Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Keith Richards, Stevie Nicks, Vince Gill, and more. Sheryl ‘s song Redemption Day, will have a revised version featuring vocals from Johnny Cash’s cover of Redemption Day. Another performer, Wanda Sykes is sure to keep the room filled with laughter, some might know her from her stand up comedy, as well as movies Monster-in-Law, Evan Almighty, and License to Wed. Bringing a country folk flair to the music festival via her use of the violin and ukulele, Amanda Shires, member of the Americana genre, is likely to perform music from her album appropriately titled To The Sunset.
Brandi Carlile has kept busy during 2019, with performances: Moon River Music Festival, Railbird Music Festival, Hinterland Music Festival, and a project with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. She gained six Grammy nominations in 2019 pertaining to her 2018 released album By The Way, I Forgive You, which she performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The song The Joke, off the album won her best American roots performance.
Aside from the music, this event truly is a girls weekend. Attendees can participate in activities such as yoga, water aerobics, lip sync contests, songwriting workshops, sushi rolling classes and poolside activities throughout the weekend and leading up to the concert. A standout from last years event, 10 out of 140 participants had the opportunity to sing karaoke with Brandi Carlile. Its also a beautiful place to visit with the sand beneath your feet and the Caribbean waves splashing at your ankles.
