Grimes, the Canadian singer-songwriter announced a second album in March 2019 called, Miss_Anthropocene. Grimes has been also releasing new singles via Soundcloud and a demo that is not a part of her new album. Flaunt, a fashion and culture magazine recently released a cover story on Grimes where the singer explored her future in music during her interview.
Grimes explained the trajectory of her new album sharing, “I hate all these songs now. I might even replace them all. I’m supposed to be finishing the album this month or whatever, but I’ve been making a shit ton of new music instead. Which is a really bad idea.” She sighs, thinks for a moment. “But I’ll probably put out the songs that I said I’ll put out”. She wants her album to make statements around global warming and make the issue feel less like a guilt trip. In her new album, she also confronts issues around substance abuse and her own struggles. Her entire album is an emotional art piece that will confront many issues that society currently faces.
This new album will represent the last of her time with her record label and be the end of a musical era for Grimes. Once she moves away from her label she wants to spend more time on her music and release songs when she is ready, “Albums are trash unless you sit down and make a really good album. I’m not really that consistent. I feel like I would work better in like EP-ish formats.” According to NME and Stereogum, she also shared that she wanted to retire from touring and wants to have a hologram tour because of her constant stage fright. Although she might retire from albums and tours Grimes will continue making incredible music and sharing her voice with the world.
