This is no April Fool’s joke: Record Store Day 2019 is coming soon! On Saturday, April 13th, audiophiles all over the country will gather far and wide to celebrate the vintage-turned-trendy medium of warm, crackly, 12-inch vinyl and the independent stores responsible for selling it. One of the largest, most prolific independent record stores in New York celebrates this day like no other – Rough Trade in Brooklyn, NY. This year is absolutely no exception; starting at 12:00pm, music fanatics will get their fill with free performances from artists such as Steve Gunn, TEEN, Cochemea, Elijah Wolf, and many more. The show is open for all ages – and unlike the limited-edition records you’ll be snagging, these performances are all free of charge.
The Record Store Day fun doesn’t end there, however. Throughout the day, Rough Trade will also hold various signings with exclusive artists, including T Bone Burnett, David J, and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. The legendary Coyne will also be present to unveil a brand-new installation at Rough Trade titled The King’s Mouth, An Immersive Installation, to promote the release of the Flaming Lips’s latest album The King’s Mouth.
As if that wasn’t enough, Rough Trade will also be hosting a panel named “Rediscovering Ecstacy: Recording with Lou Reed.” This discussion will be moderated by none other than Richard Barone, frontman of new-wave ’80s band The Bongos.
Whether you’re looking for a slew of RSD-exclusive vinyl or solely want to enjoy the jams, there will surely be something at Rough Trade for everyone to enjoy.
