Rockstar Energy Drink just announced the lineup for their 2019 Disrupt Festival and it looks like all the punk rock favorites will be there. Bands set to perform consist of The Used, Thrice, Circa Survive, Sum 41, Sleeping with Sirens, and more.
The traveling Disrupt Festival be dropping into 25 major cities across North America this summer including Dallas, Tampa, Atlanta, Toronto, Denver, Irvine, and Phoenix. The tour will begin on June 21st in Dallas, Texas at the Dos Equis Pavilion, and will conclude on July 28th in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the Isleta Amphitheater.
Rock band The Used is headlining for the festival this year and for the first time will be taking the disrupt stage. The band formed in Orem Utah in 2001 and in 2002 signed to reprise records. From their they released a self titled studio album that gained popularity in the rock community. The album features Bert McCracken’s harsh vocals which are paired well with guitarist Quinn Allman’s crisp and technical guitar playing. Though the band is characteristic of an early 2000s alternative rock band, they were able to differentiate themselves by creating a unique sound. McCracken is not afraid to bend his vocals and scream when he has to, and Allman never fails to play interesting chord progressions and solo off of them. In addition to their album The Used, over the last 17 years the band has created seven studio albums including In Love and Death, Lies for the Liars, Artwork, Vulnerable, Imaginary Enemy, and The Canyon.
Performing with The Used will be the punk rock band Thrice. The experimental group formed in Irvine, California back in 1998 and, like The Used, was also apart of the early 2000s alternative rock scene. In 2001 Thrice signed with Sub City Records and released their first album Identity Crisis. The band gained prominence when touring with the punk rock group Samiam. Their second album The illusion of Safety was received positively by critics and fans alike, and the tracks on the album are slightly more evolved musically than the songs off of Identity. In 2011 the band embarked on a farewell tour and split up. After a 4 year hiatus Thrice reunited and released their 2016 album To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere and their 2018 album Palms. Some of the band’s biggest hits came off of these album including “Black Honey” and “Hurricane” from To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere and “The Dark” and “Only Us” from Palms. Musically the band has evolved greatly over time. Their first two albums were much more akin to fast paced punk and relied heavily on distorted and technically impressive guitar solos. Now, their songs involve more electronic instrumentation and are more slow.
Joining these two bands will be the rock band Circa Survive. The band was created back in 2004 and began their musical career when signing with Equal Vision Records. Their first album Juturna, featured hard hitting songs with a classic alternative rock sound. However, their third album Blue Sky Noise and Appendage is the most indicative of the band’s overall sound. Circa Survive’s most recently went on tour for their sixth studio album “The Amulet” with Thrice.
