In her latest music video, two-time Grammy nominee Kristine Flaherty or K.Flay, escapes from a hidden penitentiary that is scenically perched somewhere unknown. The video accompanies Flaherty’s latest track “Bad Vibes” and was directed by Lorraine Nicholson. It also features actress Kathryn Gallagher from the Netflix series, You.
In the video, K.Flay dances on the penitentiary’s table and alongside other inmates on a basketball court. Speaking on the video’s ideation, K.Flay stated that the team wanted to express “what it means like to be trapped inside your own negative psyche” and also “how it might feel to break free”. The visual themes match the song’s lyrics, which explore escaping someone’s bad vibes with lyrics like “You can’t drag me down.”
Expanding on the choreography in the video, Flaherty expressed that the basketball segment was Nicholson’s idea and when it was presented to Flaherty, the basketball imagery “just made total sense” to her.
K.Flay is an American multi-talented singer-singwriter that plays several instruments and raps. Her 2014 debut album Life as a Dog peaked at number two on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart, while her Every Where is Some Where album reached number one. She is set to play a small handful of shows this Spring including two in San Francisco and Seattle separately, and also at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and LOVELOUD festival.
