Saudade, the musical collective released a new track, “Shadows & Light” which is a stunner and sure not to disappoint music lovers across the spectrum. The collaboration of Saudade includes Chuck Doom, Chino Moreno, John Medeski, Dr. Know, Gil Sharone and the enigmatic Chelsea Wolfe on vocals. Wolfe’s voice invites you in with a commanding yet sultry, poetic tone, set against explosive instrumentals.
Fans regard the new collaboration with Wolfe and Moreno with shared enthusiasm. One expressed in a tweet, “Saudade. One of the most beautiful and unique local expressions.” Another fan expressed, “Wow, sounds beautiful.”
Wolfe recently released a chilling video for “The Culling” which is blend of ‘ambient folk, pulsing goth, and crushing metal overtones’ resulting in a totally unique sound. This is not the first time that Wolfe has tackled such deep and dark imagery, as her previous video for the song “Spun” was filled with plenty of gothic horror and subtle editing techniques.
Wolfe opened for Group Ministry and appeared as a guest singer on the new Deafheaven record, Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, singing with frontman George Clarke on “Night People.” Wolfe has become one of the leading artists in the new underground goth/folk/industrial scene that has been exploding across America and Europe in recent years.
Moreno, a member of Deftones, released a solo track titled “Brief Exchange” in June 2018. The song is inspired by the DC Entertainment’s new graphic novel DARK NIGHTS: METAL. The novel is a series and is written by Scott Snyder and drawn by the creative Greg Capullo. This is Moreno’s first collaboration with DC and the song is produced by Grammy Award-winning Mike Elizondo, who has worked with Eminem and Twenty-One Pilots.
Moreno is best known as vocalist and guitarist with the Deftones but has also collaborated in side-project groups with Team Sleep, Crosses, Saudade and Palms. Moreno is well known for his distinctive screams, as well as his soothing and dramatic tenor voice while singing melodically. In 2007, he was placed at number 51 in Hit Parader’s “Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time”.

Moreno once commented on his image-heavy poetic lyrics, “Sometimes my lyrics don’t deal with specific topics. I write down on paper the feelings of the moment, it’s not easy to explain the contents of the lyrics or give a logical sense to the words. What I write is also a reaction to the music we make, so the Deftones’ sound is not pop, it doesn’t communicate happy feelings. Paradoxically my favorite songs of the album talk about love, in a clearly different view.” Moreno has been known to write songs about social issues such as racism, prostitution, urban violence, and drugs.
