Dance rock duo Death From Above split up right at the moment where people were starting to take notice. Announcing their reunion rather suddenly earlier this year. They then played a semi-surprise show at a small venue at this year’s SXSW in Austin. The demand to see them was so out of control a mini riot broke out. Their drummer quipped during their set here, “There’s been a little controversy about it.” Thankfully, at Coachella the response nowhere near that level. There was a crowd at the main stage to see them, but all was peaceful as the band banged out dance rock like it was 2006. The distorted bass is a nice touch, and gives them just enough of a garage rock tinge to keep things less polished. It was a great reunion for Coachella, but don’t expect to see any sea change in music styles as a result of their return.
