Ween frontman, founder and namesake, Dean Ween, has announced his plans to open a marijuana-friendly music venue in Denver, Colorado. The musician was well known in the 90s and early 2000s, with the popularity of Ween allowing him to have many opportunities and continue to focus on his music. He was also a member of the band the Moistboyz and his own project, The Dean Ween Group.
Now he wishes to help create a music venue that would allow for listeners to smoke weed while listening to their favorite bands. Colorado has always been on the forefront of marijuana in America, as the state was the first in the nation to legalize recreational marijuana. Since its legalization in 2012, recreational marijuana has been a major contributor of tax funds for the state and has become a large industry, one which has recently been spreading as more and more states legalize weed.
Dean Ween, whose real name is Michael Melchiondo, has agreed to lend his stage name to the venue; it will be called Dean Ween’s Honeypot Lounge. The idea of the concert venue would be to allow for a place for people to smoke indoors while also watching the show. Nothing like this has been done yet in the state, as smoking indoors is generally outlawed regardless of if it is marijuana or not. This is one of the problems Melchiondo and his team are going to have to overcome in order to make their dream a reality. While the group has not yet decided upon a venue or gotten a license from the city, the general plan for the project is to open on April 20th, otherwise known as 4/20.
UPDATE 11/27/18:
Over the weekend it was announced that Dean Ween plans to open his venue at 2041 Lawrence Street, a location currently home to the Circus Collective gallery. This gallery currently holds art exhibits as well as various other activities for the community; it will continue to run during the day once the venue is open, but at night Dean Ween will take over and run the Honey Pot Lounge. Dean himself plans to coordinate shows for the venue, something that has been a long standing dream of his.
