Gamers exploring the wild west in Rockstar Game’s smash hit, Red Dead Redemption 2, might recognize a familiar voice coming off the official soundtrack. A few of them may even be able to figure out that the voice belongs to Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
According to Consequence of Sound, the singer was featured on the album with the track “Cruel, Cruel World.” Written by Daniel Lanois, the acoustic song features the twangy chords and vocals that one would expect to find in a game about the old west. Lanois also produced the entire album. Along with Homme, the album also features a wealth of star-studded performers including Nas, Willie Nelson, Rhiannon Giddens and more.
If the game’s success is any indication Homme and his fellow artists can expect the album to do well. In its first weekend, Red Dead Redemption 2 made over $725 million over three days, making it the biggest opening weekend for a video game ever. The only game that had a bigger launch was Grand Theft Auto V, another Rockstar Studios game, that pulled in a total of $1 billion over its first week.
As of now, the studio has not announced a date, but they do plan on releasing the album in its entirety. So until the album’s actual release fans can enjoy the music of Homme in the game.
