Peter Hook and the Light have announced plans for a North America tour in 2019. The band will be performing 15 shows and will play New Order albums Technique and Republic.
The band announced that they will be playing two of New Order’s classic albums during a short tour of the United States and in Canada that starts in October. The band, which includes former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook, has played albums from both bands during their tours.
Released in 1989, Technique was New Order’s fifth studio album and the last one they released through Factory Records. Propelled by hit singles “Round & Round” and “Fine Time” it was the first New Order album to reach number one in the UK.
A press release for the band said, “Many consider “Technique” to mark the high point of New Order and as they went on from the album to headline Reading Festival in August 1989, before going on hiatus and also pursuing their solo projects, this is generally thought of as the golden period for the band.”
The band’s next album, Republic, was released in 1993 through their new record label, London Records. The album once again reached the top of the charts in the UK and was the band’s best-selling album in America.
Hook’s history with New Order stretches back to the band’s beginning and back to their former incarnation, Joy Division. Hook and his bandmates formed New Order after the suicide of Joy Division frontman, Ian Curtis in 1980. Hook honored the 35 year anniversary of his death in 2015 by performing Joy Division’s entire catalog at a benefit show.
Since their formation, New Order went on to release a total of ten albums. Hook announced that he was no longer working with the band in 2007 but the band continued to perform without him, releasing their tenth album, Music Complete, in 2015.
That same year Hook sued his former bandmates claiming they set up a company to cheat him out of royalties. Both sides would later settle out of court in 2017.
Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, November 9 at 10 a.m. For more information on the tour visit the band’s website here.
