Kali Uchis has released a new music video for her song “Just A Stranger” featuring Steve Lacy. “Just A Stranger” comes off of her critically acclaimed debut studio album Isolation via Interscope Records. Pitchfork named the album “Best New Music” when released and is featured in Rolling Stones list of “Best 2018 albums (so far),” saying “The music Kali Uchis summons on this fascinating debut album doesn’t refer to a particular place or time. Like Beck or Outkast, she’s a pop weirdo who works grooves that seem vintage and futuristic at the same moment. She grabs splashes of funk, bossa, reggaeton and soul and blankets them with a sunbaked, psychedelic wooziness. Her specialty is flashbacks, not throwbacks. Blink and the picture changes again.”
The vibrant and colorful video features Uchis beachside and boat side, with dancers and hundred dollar bills surrounding them. See the visually appealing video below.
Uchis was recently nominated for “Best New Artist” at the 2018 Soul Train Awards, set to air in BET November 17th at 8:30 EST. She also recently wrapped up her first headlining tour in North America, with one of the shows being at The Shrine in Los Angeles, CA. She is currently scheduled to play fellow collaborator Tyler, The Creator’s curated Camp Flog Gnaw, taking place this upcoming weekend at the Dodger’s Stadium in Los Angeles. Other acts on the lineup include SZA, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Pusha T, The Internet, and the live debut of Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s joint venture “Kids See Ghosts.”
Tyler and Uchis collaborated on “After The Storm,” a track featured on Isolation, as well as “See You Again” off of Tyler’s 2017 album, Flower Boy.
