Halsey’s stunning new video for “Without Me” has been released. The lyrics describe the painstaking effort in building someone up only to feel let down in the end. Halsey says, “Questioning your purpose and your effort in a relationship can be confusing and draining. But it’s important to self-reflect and know your worth and value. This record is about understanding your worth. It’s a very honest record and it helped me prove to myself that I can still manifest my feelings into art after all this time. My music will always be the vehicle that carries my heart.”
Halsey recently peformed “Eastside” with Benny and Khalid at the American Music Awards on October 9. The track, “Without Me” was released by Capitol Records and is her first solo material since the 2017 album, hopeless fountain kingdom which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. This young, stylish artist reinvents herself with each new hit. She has a sharp, unique voice which contributes to the musical world, while joining forces with other artists like Khalid and Benny. Their video for “Eastside” showcase things about Benny and Ashley (Halsey) that you may not know. The exact spot where Benny asked his first girl out and where he played basketball. The video maneuvers to the focus of Ashley and clips of the yearbook she designed, along with footage of her highschool and schoolroom where she spent the majority of her time. This attempt to ‘normalize’ both musicians and remind their fans that their experience is exactly the same as everyone else.
Halsey who is in her early 20’s comes from an interracial family with her African-American father and white mother. She was influenced by two musical styles growing up, where her dad was listening to hip hop and rap and her mother listened to grunge and rock. She uses her voice to speak out on issues for mental health, disenfranchised youth, women’s rights and more.
Back in June 2018, Halsey released a video for “Strangers” a song with Fifth Harmony member, Lauren Jauregui. The clip features the two singers suited up in braids and boxing gloves, with Halsey as “Luna” and Jauregui as “Rosa.” The two duke it out in the ring, leading to a truly bloody boxing match that pits the “red” and “white” houses of Romeo and Juliet, against each other.
By the end of the clip, Halsey is crowned as the victor, as she raises her fist above her bloodied face. She is finally able to meet “Angelus,” the wings-wearing member of Rosa’s family whom Luna is torn apart from in the video for Hopeless Fountain Kingdom’s first single “Now or Never.”
