Cyndi Lauper has announced her annual holiday concert, Home for the Holidays, which will take place at the Beacon Theatre on December 8. The show is entering its eighth year, well-known for the all-star casts Lauper employs for each show. Last year’s show featured Peaches, Laura Jane Grace from Against Me!, Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters, and more. Past years have included performances from P!nk, Josh Groban, Jason Mraz, Norah Jones, Lou Reed, and many more stellar artists. The concert benefits Lauper’s True Colors Fund, a non-profit organization co-founded by Lauper to end homelessness among LGBTQ youth. The organization supports LGBTQ youth through advocacy, training and education, and youth collaboration programs while striving to create a world where young people are comfortable being their true selves.
Lauper has been a vibrant supporter and activist of the LGBTQ community throughout her four-decade-spanning career. She co-founded the True Colors Fund 10 years ago after she faced the staggering numbers of homeless LGBTQ youth – over 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. In an interview last year, Lauper told HuffingtonPost, “As a mom, I was worried about them and angry at the same time that as a society we were letting this happen to our young people. That is when I decided that I needed to do more and was a key moment in our deciding to start the True Colors Fund.” In addition to the True Colors Fund, Lauper earned a Tony and Grammy for her original score in the Broadway adaptation of the movie Kinky Boots, a movie and musical that celebrate the LGBTQ community in a bright and inclusive way. She has also set up the True Colors Residence in New York City which is a 30-bed facility for LGBTQ homeless youth that provides shelter and job placement help.
All proceeds from the Home for the Holidays concert will go to the True Colors Fund to support their various programs for LGBTQ homeless youth. The guest artists have not yet been announced for the show. Tickets are now on pre-sale to previous attendees of the concert with a public on-sale date to follow soon.
