Organizers announced the cancellation of what was slated to be the third year of Queen’s Meadows Music Festival. According to Brooklyn Vegan, the festival was cancelled due to permit issues, but organizers hope to reprise the festival in 2019. Founders Entertainment, who oversee both Meadows Festival and New York’s Governors Ball, cited lack of proper permits as the reason behind the festival cancellation. Read the full statement below.

Previously the festival was held near Citi Field in New York City, but organizers had hoped to move the multi-day festival to Flushing Meadows Corona Park this year. Unable to reach an agreement with the New York City Parks Department, Founders Entertainment was forced to cancel this year’s festival. This year’s Governors Ball Music Festival, also organized by Founders Entertainment, took place June 1st -June 3rd at Randall’s Island Park. Among the headliners were Jack White, Post Malone, Travis Scott, Halsey and Eminem.

Meadows Festival began in 2016 with headliners Kanye West, and Chance the Rapper. The festival’s debut announcement came shortly after the final day of 2016s Governor’s Ball was cancelled due to inclement weather, preventing West from performing. The Weeknd was also scheduled to headline that year, however, J. Cole filled in for him on the festivals main stage opening night, when a scheduling change prevented The Weeknd from attending. The lineup for last year’s festival included Jaz-Z, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gorillaz, Blood Orange, Erykah Badu, Weezer , Tegan and Sara and more.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to take 2018 off and focus our efforts on returning in 2019. Our goal from day one has been to create a marquee, multi-day, fall music festival in Queens. After two great years at Citi Field, we were excited to shift our venue focus entirely to Flushing Meadows Corona Park- the location we always hoped to move to in year 3. However, after review of our application by NYC Parks, we were not able to obtain a workable multi-day permit for a 2018 festival in the park. Our sights are set on The Meadow 2019, and we look forward to working together with all city partners and agencies.”
