Los Angeles based post-metal group Ancestors have released the new track, “Gone,” off their upcoming record, Suspended in Reflections, out August 24.
Ancestors formed in 2006 and have previously released three albums on Tee Pee Records including Neptune With Fire (2008), Of Sound Mind (2009) and In Dreams and Time (2012).
For their 2018 release, the group signed to Pelagic Records. The Obelisk reports vocalist/guitarist Justin Maranga said of the band’s decision to change labels: “We’re honored to be joining the Pelagic Records family.”
The move comes six years since the group’s previous record, and in an interview The Prelude Press, Maranga discusses the band’s creative evolution, saying, “I think that we’ve grown as songwriters. We’ve learned to listen to see and hear things differently, and that’s affected the music that we write and our approach to writing it. We also see each other differently, and I think that we’ve grown so much as people in that time, that there is a new and renewed respect for each other as individuals, as songwriters and as musicians.”
During the interview, he also talks about the band recording process: “It was really easy, pleasant and smooth almost the entire time. Cathartic even. No arguing, very few disagreements, no ugly ego trips, no shaming or bullshit judgment. It was just fun. The way it should be. And the album itself is a great reward.”
